Superb Stimpson dominates in Round One victory
The Dubai Bambino Cup, a new karting race series designed for kids five to eight years old made its official debut on Saturday morning (7 October) at the Outdoor Circuit of Dubai Kartdrome in MotorCity, with Zachary Stimpson claiming the first round one with a flawless performance.
Drivers have the choice of approved Bambino chassis, but all of the competitors must use the same IAME M1 engines and Komet K1D-M Racing Tyres to ensure a level playing field. After two time trials all of the engines are randomly swapped, followed by two more time trials. Points are calculated from all four trials to determine the overall winner.
In the first of six rounds total, Stimpson made it clear that he will be the driver to beat in the championship, cruising to victory in all four of the round one heats. He also secured the fastest lap of the day, a time of 1:16.686 which was a full 5.064 seconds quicker than his nearest rival, Amer Al Ghaferi.
When the round one points were tallied, Stimpson’s perfect four-for-four performance earned him the full 200 points for the day. Al Ghaferi gave chase all morning and had to settle for second place on 170 points. Eddie Moutran secured third place with 164 points.
Round two will take place on Saturday, 11 November 2017 at Dubai Kartdrome.
